Walk Through The Garden, 2008previous rose ------- next rose
'Aschermittwoch'LFC, Hybrid rubiginosa, 1955, J.P. Kordes
Here is another rose I acquired because I couldn't find two matching descriptions of her color. This turned out to be a very strong and thriving rose in my garden; last year she produced about a hundred flowers on a barely three-year-old plant! The flowers ranged in color from brownish mauve to palest pink, but were not long-lasting.
For two years in a row, 'Aschermitwoch' has been the first rose to bloom in my garden, even before Persian Yellow. The only other such early-bird that I have is Rosa woodsii ultramontana.
Asher sets hips only grudgingly here but I did get two hips with about six nice big seeds in them, so we'll see if I have any luck sprouting them. They are open-pollinated.
Alas, she does seem to be favored by thrips.
