'Belle de Crécy'

Gallica, 1829, J.A. Hardy

I got 'Belle de Crécy' for her color. That color has been long in coming.

She arrived as a struggling, bone dry, six month old cutting coated in aphids, and really struggled the first year. She didn't really put on any growth to speak of until very late that first year. The couple of flowers she did produce were a plain pink with nothing to recommend them.

In 2007 she put on a very nice show, with full flowers showing a hunt of mauve. So in 2008 I have high hopes.

One thing I have noticed about this rose is that canes over a year old tend to die off (generally by being snapped off at the base) during the winter. She isn't going to be a very fast grower if this trend continues, but so far she's holding her own.
