Walk Through The Garden, 2007previous rose ------- next rose
Native Northern European Species
I found this rose while out on the Official Rose Rustling Moped, growing along a dirt road near Lyons, Colorado. It was late in the season, and the rose was nearly done flowering; but I was immediately struck by the delicate, translucent, porcelain-like quality of her petals. Alas I was not able to get her to root from cuttings, but I'm hoping to take more cuttings this year—even though one of my rose books says that Rosa canina is "not a suitable garden plant." The original plant is about three meters tall and just as wide; so she will have another home on a roadside here.
