A Walk Through The Garden, 2008

'Cee Dee Moss'

Moss Perpetual, 1990, R. Moore

'Cee Dee Moss' has been a right little enigma to me. Until I got 'Persian Yellow,' she was the first to break and the first to bloom each year. She produces flowers upon flowers upon flowers, reliably throughout the summer and, in 2006, well into October! A friend of mine has the same rose from the same supplier, and hers has grown to be about a meter in height. My 'Cee Dee Moss' has never, in the two years she's grown in my garden, gotten above six inches. Right now she is somewhat overshadowed by a miniature that grows next to her and is three times her size!

I tried digging her up, replacing her soil and putting her back. She sulked for months, then put out some nice flowers, and then at the very end of the year made a single cane about 20 cm. long... but it lies on the ground.

In the meantime, her wonderfully striped flowers are a real treat. They don't have much of a scent that I can detect, but they are borne freely and come in delightfully mossed buds.
