'Hot Cocoa'

Cluster Flowered/Floribunda, 2002, T. Carruth

I got this rose on a recommendation from a friend of a fragrant and unusual rose. I've only a vague idea what color the flowers actually are as I've only seen pictures.

'Hot Cocoa' turned out not to be nearly as "brown" as I'd expected, when she finally bloomed on 26 May this year. The color was, in fact, quite reminiscent of that of 'Smoky,' and I was glad to see this as my Smoky is ailing. But she doesn't have 'Smoky's fragrance, alas.

She also changes color far more quickly than Smoky, in my recollection. Smoky turns from burnt-orange to mauve in about four days; Hot Cocoa did it in the space of a single afternoon. But this may be because she is young, so I'll give her time to mature and see what happens.
