A Walk Through The Garden, 2008

'Gingersnap'

Cluster-Flowered/Floribunda, 1978, G. Delbard

'Gingersnap' is another rose I got for her genes. She is a remarkable orange-yellow which, I've found, flurorescent under ultraviolet light. I was hoping to cross her with "Fa's Marbled Moss" in order to get some yellow into that line. But so far, the crosses have not taken.

I'm not sure why this might be. But I do know that 'Gingersnap' is one of the most hair-raising roses in my garden. Every summer she grows canes over a meter tall and blooms in great waves all summer long. Then, come winter, all her canes die back completely to the bud union. You would swear she's died—but she always comes back in a rush in mid-spring and blooms again all summer.

'Gingersnap' has surprised me so far this year by breaking fairly early.
