A Walk Through The Garden, 2008

previous rose ------- next rose

Rosa glauca

Species, Native to Central Europe

I saw those leaves and had to get her. It's always the leaves that pull you in.

I originally got Rosa glauca in hopes of utilizing her genes in my quest for unusual and spotted roses. The first year I had her, she didn't bloom, but last year she did. Unfortunately, none of the crosses I made with her produced any viable seeds and in fact, none of her own seeds sprouted either. This is quite a pity because she is a very robust plant, and one which seems to have no problems at all with the extremes of wind and dryness that are frequent here. Oh well... maybe next year...
