Okay, I'm the first to admit, one should never by roses from the Bargain Bin. But still, they are roses, and when there's a bargain bin of Roses, I have to go look. When I noticed Honorine, I was floored. A great Heritage Rose in the bargain bin? That's like finding the Hope Diamond relegated to a five-and-ten! She didn't look too bad, so hey, I took her home.
I didn't have the greenhouse up yet so I planted her immediately. Then came the sudden frost, and I was sure I'd wake up to find she'd lost all her leaves. Nope. She'd lost a few, but was otherwise fine. She didn't grow any in the next couple of weeks—I suspect she was concentrating on roots—but nevertheless she seems to be doing fine.
