A Walk Through The Garden, 2007

'Henri Martin'

Moss, 1862, J. Laffay

Is it dark? Is it a Moss? Have to have it! M. Martin came on 2 May and was planted in the garden the next day. He came with one bud which I should probably pinch off to allow the plant to put its energy into growing. But it's got all summer for that, and I wanted like to see the real color of the 'Old Red Moss' for myself.

And finally, here he is. This color (which most closely matches Prismacolor 925 Crimson Lake, at least this year) is to me a true RED, without any hint of blue or yellow. A lovely, lovely color on a very beautiful flower; so I was careful to save pollen from this very beautiful flower. Alas, It will probably be the only one he makes this year. What a beautiful thing he is, and I'm very glad to have him in my garden.
