A Walk Through The Garden, 2008

'Marbrée'

Of all the spotted roses bred by the redoubtable M. Vibert, 'Marbrée' is the one most widely found in commerce. Her spotting is more stippled than that of "Fa's Marbled Moss," which is more splotched. The color is impossible to reproduce correctly on screen; she is a lovely, deep strawberry pink. She is very much a Portland in that not only does she sit on a lovely shoulder of leaves, but as you can see in the photo, some of the sepals themselves are leaves.

'Marbrée' is, in my garden, slow to break, slow to bud, and slow to bloom; but once she gets going, she blooms all summer long. She sets hips on stout stems that have to be cut off rather than snapped or picked, which last throughout the winter. Her flowers are long-lasting two; on the bush they keep for almost two weeks, with very little fading of color.

'Marbrée' was a new addition in 2005, and as such she hasn't yet grown very tall in my garden. She makes a nice, compact little bush completely covered with grass-green leaves and I would certainly recommend her as a wonderful addition to any garden.
