A Walk Through The Garden, 2007

'Sombreuil'

Large Flowered Climber, before 1959, breeder unknown.

'Sombreuil' was highly recommended to me by two very prominent rosarians; so I ordered a clone. What a wonderful rose she turns out to be; a lavish form, a delightful fragrance, and some repeat! A very welcome addition to my garden!

I bought her as a year-old cutting in 2006 and she grew to be about two-thirds of a meter tall, with only one really good cane. Early this spring I transplanted her to one of the new beds, where she could grow on her own trellis. I don't think she's quite gotten used to the new spot; or it could be the ridiculous spring we've had, days were you alternate between t-shirts and shorts and parkas! But she is starting to grow this year and by the end of the year should be all over her corner of the yard.
