Yes, she really is this color. I kid you not! Honestly, though, sometimes I think this rose hates me.
It's hard to imagine a prettier color, but the plant itself, at least, the one I have, is a fusspot. I was hoping that this year she would grow over her trellis, but she didn't. She made canes about three meters long and then spent the rest of the summer sulking.
One major problem I have with 'Veilchenblau' is that she starts every growing season with severe chlorosis. I don't know whether this is a normal thing for this plant or what, but it's very, very annoying, especially since the soil tests just fine.
Oh well. I have some open-pollinated seeds which I hope will sprout. We'll see....
